GT-R: Turbocharger for motorsport, retrofit or as an upgrade
The GT-R turbochargers have cast compressor wheels with six main blades and six dished blades. Not only are they aerodynamically optimized, they are also very strong and can easily withstand extreme loads. This also makes them extremely durable. The compressor housings are designed in such a way that they expand the usable map of the compressors. Internal wastegates and also external wastegates are used here to regulate the boost pressure. Thanks to the double ceramic ball bearing, you can look forward to an extremely fast response, which makes the turbo lag a faint memory.
GT series turbochargers are water-cooled and have two ports on the sides. The turbine wheel also withstands extreme thermal loads and corrosion because it is made of the special material Inconel.
This is a superalloy of dissimilar metals, which is perfect for use in motorsport and especially where high exhaust gas temperatures prevail.
Turbo technology with history
With the newly developed GT turbocharger, Garrett made a breakthrough in turbo technology in the 1990s. The number of individual components was drastically reduced, making the turbochargers less prone to failure and making the engines run smoother. The improved bearing system in connection with the aerodynamic optimization ensures less air resistance. They are correspondingly more efficient and at the same time more stable. The GT series is still perfectly suited in the OEM area, for upgrading series parts and in motorsport. These turbochargers are also very interesting in terms of price if you want a lot of performance and high quality for little money.
